Flight Two

We took a step closer to finishing Flight Two today. I spent the morning at Glass Harbours HQ working with Pete Glass Harbours on his drum tracks for Flight Two and they are sounding great. We've gone for a breakbeat style take to complement the soul/jazz influences in the track. It feels really good to finally get this track on the final straight.

Spring EP

Three years ago our Spring EP Cdrs arrived in the post. I've got loads of great memories writing and recording with Flynn and Charlotte at Soundstation in Wakefield. Little did we realise that 'Footsteps in the Sand' would go on to be one of our most successful tracks from Lost Winter's EP era.

More Flight Two News!

The recording studio is booked for 14 May to mix and master Flight Two. Of all the releases by Lost Winter this is the one I am most nervous about. We’ve covered a number of genres over the years; 8-bit synth, light classical, indie and folk, but my jazz influences have never made it in to our music. I've had to learn new chords and new forms of composition to get the song sounding right (at least to my ears). But any songwriter, even one as modestly talented as myself, has to keep moving forward and progressing. I think it's when we're in uncharted waters that we begin to learn.

Flight Two News

Just a quick note to say that work on Flight Two is underway! This new song has taken on a soul / jazz feel akin to Jeff Parker's 'The New Breed' LP (which I'm a massive fan of). So far I've recorded piano, electric piano and, with the help of Pete from Glass Harhours, bass guitar. Pete is also providing drums for Flight Two. We are well out of our comfort zone on this track but having a blast pushing ourselves to take Lost Winter in a new direction.

Faded Arches makes its podcast debut!

I'd like to send a big thank you to Tracy's EOP for playing Faded Arches on Andriot Frog Sessions tonight alongside loads of cool artsists and bands. I think this is the first time a track from Fading Voices, Forgotten Stone has been featured on a broadcast and as this song was the very first demo I wrote for the album I'm totally chuffed to bits. Love music.

What's new for 2017 at Lost Winter HQ?

I'm planning on releasing 4 singles throughout 2017 on (very) limitied edition CDR (probably 10 copies per single). These songs will not be availble to stream or digital download and will only be available from myself, Bandcamp and Vinyl Tap Records.

I was inspired by the mystery surrounding some of Sun Ra's early singles, songs which appear to have been released dispite the fact that no physical copies have ever been found. So I guess I have decided to abandon digital distribution for a bit of mystery myself!

Fading Voices, Forgotten Stone

I am soooo proud to announce that Lost Winter's new album, Fading Voices, Forgotten Stone, will be available to pre-order tonight from 7:30pm GMT. The album features 7 brand new tracks influenced by Agnes Obel and Bill Evens.

Fading Voices, Forgotten Stone was inspired by the Kirkless Way and the buildings and monuments along its paths. It was at these sites that people once came together, be it for religion, rebellion, art or education, places that are now forgotten.

Lost Winter

I've had a great day writing songs for Lost Winter's new instrumental LP. I've managed to whittle the 20 or so demos I wrote down to 8 songs. So far, they are sounding great and I'm really please with the results. I also spent the day travelling around Kirklees visiting some awesome sites that I discovered whilst walking the Kirkess Way. This long distance walk has been a great inspriation for me and has become the theme of my next album. So I guess you could say I'm making a none folk music folk album! I've booked studio time in September (with Mark at Soundstation in Wakefield) to mix and master these new songs. I cannot wait to release this new set of tracks.

Album News

We've had an amazing few weeks at LWHQ. We've almost finished the demos for our debut album and I'm really proud of the results. We've stripped away all the drums, synths and strings for a beautiful piano/vocal sound. Hopefully, we'll have 8-10 songs completed by the end of April with the record following sometime in the Summer.

The decision to change our sound came from listening to the likes of Nick Cave, Jessica Pratt, Elliott Smith and other artists and bands who have released amazing albums that put awesome song writing first; in other words, records that don't need loads of instrument tracks and overdubs to prove how good they are. It has been a massive challenge but I'm confident we've written our best set of songs yet. I cannot wait to release this album!!

01/02/2015

Things have been very quiet of late at LWHQ. I am currently writting piano based songs and Charlotte is working on vocals but we have no fixed release date for this new material. Keep in touch with all our news updates here, on Facebook or Twitter. Many thanks.

Our old friend Pete Bush (Atlas Steppes/Glass Harbours) has sequenced the drums for Lonely Traveller and they are sounding really cool.
